Vice President Gibran Dialog with Farmers, Promises to Follow Up Input
JAKARTA - Vice President (Wapres) Gibran Rakabuming held a dialogue with farmers and fishermen from various regions of Indonesia when opening the 2026 XVII National Farmers and Fishermen (PENAS) Week, ensuring that the government will follow up on their input.
When opening PENAS XVII at the GOR David-Tony, Gorontalo Regency, Vice President Gibran called on a number of representatives of farmers and fishermen to get on stage to share advice on improving the agricultural and fisheries sectors in their respective regions.
"Please, Mr. Minister, Wamen, all those here, please follow up immediately," said Vice President Gibran, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, June 20.
A number of issues that had been conveyed by farmers and fishermen included those related to the need for solar, agricultural irrigation, drying and milling facilities.
In particular, he asked the Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman to be able to delve into a number of issues before the closure of PENAS XVII which is planned to be carried out by President Prabowo Subianto. PENAS XVII will take place on 20-25 June 2026.
On this occasion, the Vice President also ensured that the government through relevant ministries and agencies would continue to monitor various efforts to realize food self-sufficiency.
Including by cutting 145 regulations on the distribution of fertilizer which have been carried out by Mentan. As well as the revitalization and construction of seven fertilizer plants and fertilizer raw materials in a number of regions including Palembang, Gresik, Bontang and Lhokseumawe.
"The government with the leading sectors of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries will continue to monitor so that Indonesia can realize food independence, improve the welfare of farmers and fishermen. And find solutions to the problems faced by farmers and fishermen," he explained.
PENAS XVII is a major meeting of farmers and fishermen from across Indonesia, which this year is centered in Gorontalo.
Also present at the event were Deputy Coordinating Minister (Wamenko) for Food and Agriculture Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Deputy Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Didit Herdiawan Ashaf, Deputy Minister of Transportation Suntana and Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency Abdul Kadir Karding.
