PDIP Emphasizes Being a Balancing Party for the Prabowo Government
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Central Leadership Council (DPP) of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Said Abdullah emphasized PDIP's position as a balancing party.
According to the decision of the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the PDI-P, Said said that this attitude was not a 'gray' attitude.
"We cannot compare with western countries that run the opposition system," said Said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, June 20.
As a counterweight, PDIP is objective-proportional. Therefore, if the government's performance and policies are good for the people, PDIP provides support until 2029, even though PDIP does not get electoral benefits from the good performance.
On the other hand, continued Said, if the government's policies and performance are not good, the PDI Perjuangan will remind them constructively. Even though in such a position, PDIP is not necessarily also gaining electoral benefits.
For that reason, as a counterweight, he emphasized that the PDI-P wanted President Prabowo Subianto to be able to serve well until 2029 according to the rules of the game outlined by the constitution.
"It's different from the choice of taking an opposition stance. Opposition is a political will that is totally opposed to the ruling government," he said.
According to him, the opposition's attitude is more to show the weakness and shortcomings of the government in order to get negative electoral impacts.
He said President Prabowo also understood the attitude and political choices taken by the PDI Perjuangan. In fact, he continued, the President expressed his gratitude for that attitude and considered it a 'more honest friend'.
"The President is very aware that not all praise is good. Overestimating praise is like a friend, but it can obscure the objectivity that the President needs," said the Chairman of the Banggar DPR.
Previously, the Chairman of the PKB Faction of the DPR, Jazilul Fawaid, hoped that PDIP would take a firm stance on its political position, either choosing to form a coalition in the government or becoming the opposition.
He conveyed this in relation to the issue of one of the PDIP cadre figures participating in a demonstration with students in Jakarta, recently. For this reason, according to him, PDIP does not need to be "gray" about its political position.
"If you really want to be outside the government, please. But don't be gray. That's what I mean," said Jazilul at the parliament complex, Jakarta, Thursday (19/6).
According to him, the parties that are in coalition with the government are currently struggling hard to realize President Prabowo Subianto's promise. In order for all programs to run according to target, according to him, it requires unity and solidarity.
So far, he has also stated that political parties in the government line respect all different opinions and views. Therefore, he assessed that the position of the PDI-P should be clear.
