Bali Motor Rental Trend Increases Along with the Surge in Tourists from Asia

JAKARTA - The trend of independent tourism in Bali continues to increase as the number of tourists from Asia who come without relying on conventional tour packages increases.

Tourists from India, China, to South Korea now prefer to arrange their own trips, including using motorcycle rental services to explore popular destinations on the Island of the Gods.

This transportation option is considered more flexible, especially for accessing tourist areas such as Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Sanur, to Ubud which often experience traffic congestion at certain times.

Tourism data shows that Bali received nearly 7 million foreign tourist visits throughout 2025.

India and China are the two largest markets after Australia, showing the increasing contribution of Asian tourists to the Bali tourism industry.

The founder of Gotravela Indonesia Alfonso Giostanov Sinantong Pareira said that changes in the pattern of travel for tourists were one of the factors for the increasing demand for motor rentals in Bali.

"The current generation of tourists wants to be more free to determine their own destinations and travel times. Motorcycles are the choice because they are more practical for short-distance mobility in tourist areas," said Alfonso.

However, he emphasized that two-wheeled vehicles are not suitable for all tourists.

According to him, safety must be the main consideration before deciding to rent a motorcycle while in Bali.

"We always emphasize that motorcycle rentals are only for tourists who are used to riding motorcycles. Bali has a different traffic character than many countries of origin of tourists," he said.

Later, the police in Bali also highlighted the involvement of foreign tourists in traffic violations and accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles. Therefore, tourists are advised to have the appropriate driving documents and understand local traffic rules before using a motorcycle.

Alfonso added that tourists who do not have experience riding a motorcycle should choose other alternatives such as vehicles with a driver.

"Bali offers many transportation options. If you have never ridden a motorcycle or are not confident driving on a crowded road, it is better to use a car with a driver for safety," he said.

Tourism observers assess that the trend of renting motorcycles in Bali will continue to grow as the number of young tourists, solo travelers, and remote workers who want the freedom to explore tourist destinations without being bound by a specific travel schedule increases.

However, amid this increasing demand, driving safety is expected to be an issue that is increasingly gaining attention from industry players and local governments.
