Tan Malaka House to be Reorganized, Prepared as a Cultural and Historical Tourism Center
LIMA PULUH KOTA - Pemerintah berencana melanjutkan renovasi dan penataan kawasan Rumah Tan Malaka di Kabupaten Lima Puluh Kota, Sumatra Barat. Kawasan tersebut disiapkan menjadi pusat budaya, wisata sejarah, sekaligus ruang edukasi yang mengangkat warisan pemikiran salah satu tokoh penting dalam sejarah Indonesia.
The plan was conveyed by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon when he visited the Tan Malaka House in Pandam Gadang, Gunuang Omeh District, Friday (19/6).
During the visit, Fadli reviewed the condition of the building and the display after the inauguration of the house in December 2024. He also asked for a number of improvements to be made, ranging from arranging the area, the display room, to the lighting system.
"We will make this place a cultural center, a historical tourist, and a historical place that remembers Tan Malaka as an Indonesian national fighter," said Fadli.
According to Fadli, the development efforts of the area are now more open after the Tan Malaka House was designated as a National Cultural Heritage. This status is an important basis to support the preservation and development of the area in a more targeted manner.
However, Fadli emphasized that the management of the area could still involve other parties, including foundations, as long as they had an agreement from the Tan Malaka family.
In addition to physical improvements, the Minister of Culture also asked the local government to add directions and identity of the area so that the existence of the Tan Malaka House is easier for the public to recognize.
On that occasion, Fadli again highlighted Tan Malaka's position in Indonesian history. He called the figure with the full name Ibrahim Datuk Tan Malaka as a fighter and one of the pioneers of the idea of the Republic of Indonesia.
According to Fadli, the vision regarding the birth of the Republic of Indonesia has been outlined by Tan Malaka in the book Naar de Republiek which was written in 1925, long before Indonesia was independent.
Besides being known as a movement activist, Tan Malaka also left a number of important works such as Madilog and From Prison to Prison. He was designated as a National Hero in 1963.
The Ministry of Culture hopes that the arrangement of the Tan Malaka House area will not only preserve historical heritage, but also expand public access to the thoughts and struggles of one of the most influential figures in the history of the Indonesian national movement.
