Sabrina Carpenter Gets Court Protection, Men Who Came to Her House Banned from Approaching for 5 Years

JAKARTA - A United States court granted a protection order for Sabrina Carpenter after a man repeatedly tried to visit her home. A protection order is a legal ban on approaching or contacting someone.

According to a report by HuffPost quoted Thursday, June 18, a man named William Applegate, 31, was recorded trying to enter Carpenter's house more than a dozen times. He is now banned from approaching the pop singer for five years.

At the hearing, Applegate claimed that she and Carpenter were involved in a secret military program that required them to "be together immediately" for "national and global security".

The case culminated last month. In his plea to the court, Carpenter said Applegate had hit a security guard and was arrested after reaching the front door of his home in Los Angeles.

Applegate is said to have entered through a neighboring property. After that, he reappeared in the following days. The judge then issued a temporary protection order on May 29.

At trial, Applegate admitted all of her arrivals. However, he claimed Carpenter wanted her there.

He also said he was willing to stay away if Carpenter himself asked him. Applegate accused the police and Carpenter's representatives of obstructing him.

Carpenter was actually ready to testify remotely, but was not called to testify.

Carpenter's lawyer, Blair Berk, said his client feared for his own safety and that of his family.

"He is afraid for his personal safety and the safety of his family members," Berk said.

In the objection document, Applegate admitted to being present when Carpenter performed at Coachella in April. He claimed Carpenter looked at him while singing as a form of communication.

Carpenter denied the claim. In a court filing, he described Applegate as a "complete stranger" he had never met, never spoken to, and did not want to know.

Judge David L. Wasserman ordered Applegate to keep a minimum distance of 100 yards or about 91 meters from Carpenter. The ban also applies to Carpenter's sisters and her brother's partner who live together.

Applegate was also banned from contacting Carpenter in any form and from owning firearms.

"I expect you to obey the court's order, not what you think is right and not what you think the military ordered," the judge said.

HuffPost also reported that Applegate is still under criminal investigation. However, court records have not indicated any official charges.

Carpenter, 27, is known from the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World before pursuing a music career. His name rose through the album Emails I Can't Send in 2022.

His career grew even bigger after the 2024 album Short n' Sweet gave birth to the hits Espresso and Please Please Please. The album also brought him several Grammys and made him one of the world's biggest pop stars.
