Four Demands and Official Attitude of the Indonesian Student Association in the Prabowo Regime
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Student Executive Agency delivered an official statement regarding the dynamics of democracy over official government programs at Silang Monas, Jakarta, June 19. The official action titled Student Platform: Rise Together, Reject Provocation and Save Democracy.
BEM PERSATUAN INDONESIA, which consists of the Student Executive Board across universities in Jabodetabek, is present as the voice of students who believe that democracy is built on dialogue, cared for with arguments and fought with intellectuals. The pattern of anarchy and provocation carried out by individual students who represent the public's anxiety clearly tarnishes democracy.
BEM PERSATUAN INDONESIA acknowledges the public's disappointment over government programs such as MBG needs to be voiced. On this basis, BEM PERSATUAN INDONESIA conveys the following official position statement: 1. Urging the Prabowo Presidential Government to conduct a comprehensive and measurable evaluation of the performance of each state institution, especially those institutions mandated to implement government strategic programs and review the Free Nutritional Meal, Red-White Village Cooperative. The implementation and use of the budget are adjusted to the provisions of laws and regulations as well as the general principles of good governance (AAUPB). 2. Strongly condemns the persecution of discussion spaces because they are not in accordance with the principles of democracy and people's sovereignty that are embraced by students and the academic community. Campus is a place where arguments beat anger, reason subdues motions, and differences of opinion are resolved by debate, not by violence. 3. Demands a statement from Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono and other public officials to always be present in the midst of discussion forums with students and academic networks. And invites all elements of civil society and students to make this dialogue forum a turning point for democracy, that the people and the government should not be distant, can sit at the same table for the benefit of the people. 4. Asking the government to guarantee the stability of subsidized fuel prices and ensure that the location of subsidies is targeted and take other strategic steps to maintain the purchasing power of the people, restore investor confidence in the fundamentals of the Indonesian economy, and maintain the stability of the national economy.
