Police Arrest 2 Suspects for Planting 3,000 Cannabis Tree Roots in Aceh
BANDA ACEH - The Lhokseumawe Police, Aceh, arrested two suspects who were suspected of planting 3,000 marijuana trees on an area of two hectares in Gampong Teupin Rusep, North Aceh Regency.
"Officers secured two suspects with initials I (31) and MH (28) who are local residents. Both are suspected of being involved in cannabis cultivation in the area," said Lhokseumawe Police Chief, AKBP Ahzan, Friday, June 19.
AKBP Ahzan explained that the discovery of the marijuana field and the arrest of two suspected perpetrators around the location of the cultivation of this illegal goods were the result of the development of the suspect in the case of the sale of two kilograms of dried marijuana some time ago.
The investigation led to three locations where two hectares of marijuana were planted. After that, his party together with the BNN Lhokseumawe team, Lhokseumawe Customs, and Koramil and Kodim 0103/North Aceh, on Thursday (19/6) immediately carried out the destruction.
"All the marijuana plants that we destroyed were about 3,000 stems from three locations. The age of the plants varies from new seedlings to plants ready to be harvested," said the Police Chief.
From the results of the examination, continued AKBP Ahzan, the suspects admitted selling marijuana at a price of around Rp. 800 thousand per kilogram. In addition to the two people who have been arrested, the police are still looking for two other perpetrators whose identities have been bagged.
"The suspects admitted that one kilogram of marijuana was sold for Rp800 thousand. Currently, there are two more people we are looking for, namely I and F," he said.
He added that the perpetrators are now beginning to change the pattern of planting by dividing the land into several plots or per chain. This is done so that the losses suffered are not too large if the planting location is successfully found by law enforcement officers.
"We continue to investigate. Because this finding is not the first time and there have been actions from previous years," he said.
Based on the confessions of the suspects, they chose to plant marijuana because they were considered to have a higher economic value than other horticultural crops and other short-term crops. The big profit is the main reason for the perpetrators to be involved in this activity.
