Government Prepares New Economic Stimulus Package for the Third Quarter of 2026
JAKARTA - The government is preparing a new economic stimulus package that will be launched in the third quarter of 2026 as an effort to maintain people's purchasing power while supporting the momentum of national economic recovery amid global uncertainty.
The plan is scheduled to be announced by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto on Monday, June 22.
The Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Susiwijono Moegiarso, said that the preparation of the stimulus package was carried out after the government observed the global economic and geopolitical developments, including the easing of tensions between the United States and Iran which were considered potentially affecting the movement of world energy prices.
Susiwijono said the government had previously disbursed various stimuli in the second quarter of 2026, and currently, the government is finalizing a number of follow-up policies that will be implemented in the third quarter and the following period.
"We have already issued several stimulus for the second quarter. Maybe Mr. Coordinating Minister (Airlangga Hartarto) will deliver the stimulus in the third quarter and the following," he told the media, Friday, June 19.
He assessed that this condition could provide a positive sentiment for the Indonesian economy, namely the adjustment of world oil prices to a lower level is expected to be able to reduce the pressure on energy and logistics costs so as to support national economic stability.
"Issues regarding this are with America and Iran have started signing for peace, of course. Automatically, it must have a lot of influence. Oil and gas prices will also start to adjust down," he explained.
In addition, Susiwijono explained that the normal sailing activity in the Strait of Hormuz is believed to help facilitate the global supply chain which had previously faced disruptions.
He hopes that this condition can support international trade activities and maintain the stability of the prices of various commodities.
"Then various logistical supply chain constraints with the Strait of Hormuz will also be opened, maybe the momentum is good. This is to encourage everyone to recover some conditions and maintain stability," he said.
Although he has not revealed in detail the contents of the stimulus package to be announced, Susiwijono gave a signal that a number of programs that have proven to be effective will likely be resumed.
According to him, food assistance will still be one of the main instruments of the government to maintain household consumption and strengthen domestic demand, and is preparing various fiscal incentives to encourage economic activity.
"Oh I don't remember the details, but if it's about electricity tariffs, yesterday I haven't had time to discuss it, if it's usual, it's about fiscal incentives, if it's food assistance, it's definitely (in the third quarter). Yes, it means to strengthen demand from the demand side," he said.
In terms of supply, he added that the government also designed various policies aimed at reducing the burden on the community and the business world, such as the Government-Underwritten Value Added Tax (PPN DTP) facility and transportation discount programs that are generally given during long holidays.
He added that transportation incentives are expected to help reduce people's travel costs while encouraging mobility and economic activity during the holiday period, thus having a positive impact on domestic consumption.
"If from the supply side, yes, several DTP PPNs and transportation discounts will be announced later, because this holiday has started, starting from the holiday, from the supply side, we also ask for a price reduction for transportation discounts," he explained.
