Wamenperin Reveals the Potential for Spending on Indonesian Halal Products to Reach IDR 11.182 Trillion
JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Industry (Wamenperin) Faisol Riza said that the potential spending on halal products by Muslim communities in Indonesia is estimated to reach IDR 11,182 trillion, making it a great opportunity to strengthen the competitiveness of the national halal industry.
"The magnitude of the halal production needs is a strategic opportunity to increase domestic production capacity, strengthen the supply chain, increase the use of local components and encourage innovative halal products that are competitive," said Faisol at the Kick-off Halal Indonesia International Industry Expo (Halal Indo) 2026 in Jakarta, Thursday, June 18.
Faisol said that by 2025 the number of Muslim residents in the country reached 248.6 million or about 87.13 percent of the total population.
Meanwhile, national household consumption was recorded at Rp12,834 trillion with the potential for Muslim community spending of Rp11,182 trillion.
According to Faisol, the size of the domestic market is a strong capital for Indonesia to develop the halal industry from small business scale to large industry.
In addition to meeting domestic needs, the development of the halal industry is also considered to strengthen the national supply chain, increase the use of domestic components, encourage import substitution and expand Indonesia's contribution to the global halal value chain.
He added that globally, Muslim consumption in the six sectors of the sharia economy reached 2.6 trillion US dollars in 2024 and is projected to increase to 3.56 trillion US dollars in 2029.
"This very large value is an opportunity for the halal industry to be a strong industry and we believe that Indonesia as the largest Muslim country will be able to take advantage of the opportunity of 3.56 trillion US dollars," he said.
In line with this, the performance of the national halal industry also continues to show a positive trend.
Until the first quarter of 2026, the number of halal certificates in the industrial subsector reached 2,662,607 certificates.
Of this amount, 2,314,614 certificates come from the halal food industry, 338,757 certificates from the halal beverage industry, and 5,590 certificates in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
In addition, the number of industrial products that have obtained halal certificates has reached 5,014,222 products.
According to Faisol, the increase in the number of certifications reflects the increasing commitment of industry players in meeting halal standards while increasing consumer confidence in national products.
Through the implementation of the Halal Indonesia International Industry Expo (Halal Indo) 2026, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) hopes to strengthen the national halal industry ecosystem and expand access to the Indonesian halal product market at both the domestic and global levels.
"Hopefully Halal Indo 2026 will be a step that will continue to strengthen synergy and accelerate the growth of the national halal industry, especially to achieve Indonesia as the world's halal industry center," concluded Faisol.
