Pramono asks the masses not to damage public facilities when holding a demonstration in Jakarta
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung reminded all participants in the protest action that took place at a number of points in the capital not to damage public facilities. The appeal was made amid the rampant demonstrations held by various groups of people in Jakarta today.
Pramono emphasized that the public presentation of opinions is the right of every citizen. However, its implementation must still take into account the interests of the community and maintain public assets that are used together.
"So, as I said, the most important thing is, the expression for this expression should not damage public facilities. Because public facilities belong to the community," said Pramono when met in the Senen area, Central Jakarta, Friday, June 19.
According to Pramono, freedom of expression should not lead to damage to public facilities built using state funds and used by the wider community.
"So with that, I really appeal, ask, whoever is demonstrating in Jakarta not to damage public facilities. That's all," he said.
Today, a number of demonstrations took place in several locations in Central Jakarta. To secure the activities, the police dispatched 4,263 joint personnel.
One of the actions was held by a number of student executive bodies (BEM) from various faculties of Trisakti University in front of the DPR RI Building. The call for action was conveyed through the social media accounts of a number of student organizations, including the Trisakti University Student Presidency, Trisakti Law Faculty BEM, Trisakti Industrial Technology Faculty BEM, and Trisakti STMA BEM.
The action of the students, which started at 13.30 WIB, carried three demands of the people, namely restoring the economy and politics, eradicating the incompetence of officials, and restoring civil supremacy.
In addition to the DPR RI area, the masses from the Indonesian Independent Farmers organization and the Association of Indonesian Market Traders (APPSI) also held an action in the Horse Statue area, Central Jakarta.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that all the series of actions that take place can run safely and orderly without disturbing the activities of the community or causing damage to public facilities.
