Hendropriyono Denies Being the Mastermind of the Government Down Movement
JAKARTA - The former Head of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN), General TNI (Ret.) A.M. Hendropriyono, spoke out following the circulation of allegations linking him to the movement that harshly criticized and intended to overthrow the legitimate government. The intelligence professor confirmed that the issue circulating was a hoax and slander.
"I confirm that I and those close to me are not involved, do not support, and have never ordered anyone to carry out activities aimed at overthrowing the legitimate government," Hendropriyono said in a written statement in Jakarta, Friday, June 19, 2026.
The retired general, who received the Bintang RI from President Prabowo Subianto, stated that he had devoted his life to the country through various assignments. Therefore, he upholds the commitment of the Soldier's Oath to always maintain the stability of the country, not to destroy it.
"My principle remains the same, maintaining the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia, Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, and national stability. Criticism of government policies in any democratic country should not aim to seize or overthrow power. It is not the path I believe in," he said.
Responding to the dynamics of the national situation recently, Hendropriyono also reminded all elements of the nation to strengthen vigilance against the strategy of mutual destruction launched by certain parties through the dissemination of false information, hoaxes, and provocations.
According to him, historical records have proven that the great division of the nation is often triggered by misleading information and suspicions that are deliberately spread among the public. He asked the public to always prioritize common sense, do tabayun (fact-check), and respect the supremacy of the law.
"Don't be easily provoked by issues that are unclear about their sources and goals. We all need to be alert to various incorrect information, especially slander," said Hendropriyono.
He added that differences of opinion in a democratic country are commonplace, but the distribution must be through legal, peaceful, civilized, and constitutional mechanisms. All unconstitutional actions that have the potential to undermine national unity and threaten the course of government are ensured not to be given space.
"I have never and will never be behind any demonstration to overthrow the government. The unity of the nation, the order of the constitution, and the safety of the country must always be placed above the interests of groups and momentary political ambitions," he concluded.
