KPK reminds schools and education offices to be vigilant against potential corruption in the admission of new students

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reminded education services and schools to be careful in implementing the New Student Admission System (SPMB) in the 2026/2027 academic year. This is because practices of violations that have the potential to become acts of corruption are still found.

This was conveyed by the Director of Anti-Corruption Education and Campaign of the KPK, Amir Arief, based on the 2024 Education Integrity Assessment Survey (SPI) conducted by his agency.

"We remind all schools, education services to be careful in managing new students in 2026-2027 because there is a potential for corruption in it," said Amir, quoted Friday, June 19.

Amir said that the 2024 Education SPI had more schools in Indonesia still affected by the practice of privilege in the process of accepting new students.

"More than 60 percent of schools in Indonesia are still affected by privileges in the acceptance of new students," he said.

The privilege in question, continued Amin, was various forms of violations of procedures in the process of accepting students such as manipulating domicile to buying and selling seats.

"What we found was that there was manipulation of domicile, manipulation of family cards, even that it was included in the zoning, then there was still a trust and there was also a sale of seats, if we look back, it was a risk of corruption," he said.

Therefore, the KPK asked all parties involved in the implementation of the SPMB to comply with the rules. Various irregularities must be avoided, said Amir.

"Don't let there be chair trading, don't let there be a deposit, don't let there be zoning manipulation, don't let there be domicile manipulation if that happens, it's the same as mortgaging the credibility and dignity of education," he said.

The KPK also reminded of the risk of gratification in the process of accepting new students as stipulated in the KPK Circular Letter regarding the prevention of corruption and control of gratification in the implementation of SPMB.

"So we remind all schools, education services to be careful in managing new students in 2026-2027 because there is a potential for corruption in it. In accordance with the SE of the KPK leadership that we issued a few weeks ago, education is careful about the risk of gratification in the acceptance of new students," he concluded.
