Former Director of BUMD Plantation Profits, Sentenced to 7.5 Years in Prison

BANDA ACEH - The public prosecutor of the East Aceh District Attorney's Office (Kejari) has demanded Darwin, the former director of the Regional Owned Business Agency (BUMD) owned by the East Aceh Regency Government, with a sentence of 7.5 years or seven years and six months in prison. Darwin was found guilty of corruption in the management of oil palm plantations.

The demand was read by Public Prosecutor (JPU) Akbar Pramadhana during the trial at the Banda Aceh Corruption Crime Court, Wednesday, June 17.

"The defendant is ordered to pay a fine of Rp. 300 million with a three-month imprisonment, as well as paying compensation for state losses of Rp. 1.224 billion," said Akbar, quoted from ANTARA, Friday, June 19, 2026.

The JPU emphasized that if the defendant did not pay the substitute money, his property would be confiscated and auctioned to cover the state's losses. If the defendant does not have enough assets, he will be replaced with an additional imprisonment of three years and nine months in prison.

In his demand letter, the JPU stated that Darwin, who served as the Director of PT Beurata Maju for the period 2022-2024, was proven to have violated Article 603 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code as the first indictment. PT Beurata Maju is a regional company formed by the East Aceh Regency Government which operates in the palm oil plantation management sector.

This case began in 2023 when the red plate company managed to reap profits from the management of oil palm plantations of more than IDR 1.2 billion. However, the profits that should have entered the regional treasury as Regional Original Income (PAD) were not deposited by the defendant.

Based on the report on the results of the audit of the calculation of state financial losses, the acts of embezzlement committed by Darwin officially caused state losses with a total value of more than IDR 1.2 billion.

Responding to the criminal demands of the prosecutor, the defendant Darwin and his legal team stated that they would submit a defense memorandum (pledoi) at the next trial. The panel of judges then postponed and scheduled to reopen the trial next week with the agenda of listening to the defendant's defense.
