Ruben Amorim Officially Becomes AC Milan Manager, Manchester United Can Save Compensation Payments

JAKARTA - Ruben Amorim has been appointed as the Manager of AC Milan after being fired by Manchester United in January 2026.

The Portuguese coach will move to Serie A with AC Milan, who finished fifth last season.

"There is ambition that remains throughout your career. Coaching AC Milan has always been one of my ambitions. I know exactly what this club means."

"History, prestige, and an incredible fan base around the world. It's a challenge I accept with pride and enthusiasm, fully aware of what these colors represent."

"I can't wait to start and feel every day the passion that drives AC Milan," Amorim said on the club's official website.

Milan signed Amorim after sacking Massimiliano Allegri at the end of the 2025/2026 season, when the Rossoneri finished fifth in Serie A - failing to qualify for next season's Champions League.

His managerial career began in his homeland with Casa Pia, Braga, and Sporting CP before he took over at Old Trafford.

However, his tenure at Manchester ended in the middle of last season or after 14 months. He was then replaced by Michael Carrick who took over as interim coach before getting a permanent job.

Manchester United may save some of the compensation it owes Amorim following his departure, if a job at AC Milan has been confirmed.

The club's financial statements, released in February 2026, showed that the team had a reserve of 15.9 million pounds related to money owed to Amorim and his coaching staff. This figure could be lower after AC Milan officially announced Amorim as the new manager.

Apart from that, AC Milan will face Manchester United on August 15, 2026 in a preseason friendly match in Poland.
