China Speeds Up National Computing Network to Chase AI Explosion

China is accelerating the construction of an integrated national computing power network. In the midst of rapid development of artificial intelligence or AI, computing power is an important foundation for the digital economy.

According to a report by China Daily quoted on Thursday, June 18, the National Development and Reform Commission or NDRC said the market would play a big role in the development of the network.

At a monthly press conference in Beijing on Thursday, NDRC spokesman Li Chao said computing power had become an important productive force in the digital economy.

Therefore, the development of an integrated national computing power network is considered important to support high-quality growth.

Li said market forces would play a decisive role in the development of the network. The NDRC will also work with relevant departments to strengthen coordination and provide policy guidance.

China Daily reported that by the end of March, China's intelligent computing capacity had reached 1.882 million PFlops. The figure was 2.5 times higher than the previous year.

PFlops is a measure of a computer's ability to perform very large calculations in one second. The higher the number, the more powerful the system's ability to run heavy workloads such as AI, cloud computing, scientific research, and big data analysis.

NDRC estimates that China's smart computing capacity growth will continue to grow rapidly as AI technology develops rapidly.
