Pramono relies on AI to boost Jakarta's competitiveness, aiming to enter 20 global cities by 2045
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized the use of artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology, and data management as one of the main strategies to increase Jakarta's competitiveness at the global level.
According to Pramono, big cities are no longer just competing through the development of physical infrastructure. The ability to manage data, present innovation, and strengthen technology-based public services is a determining factor for a city's position in the digital era.
"This theme is very relevant because data, digital technology, and AI are now an important factor in determining the competitiveness of nations and cities. Jakarta as the center of the national economy has the responsibility to be the driving force for this transformation," said Pramono when he was a speaker at the Indonesia Summit 2026 at Tribrata Dharmawangsa, South Jakarta, Thursday, June 18.
The DKI Provincial Government, he said, is directing the transformation of Jakarta so that it can compete with the world's major cities. This effort is carried out through strengthening innovation, talent development, to the digitization of public services that directly touch the needs of citizens.
"Therefore, the DKI Provincial Government continues to encourage Jakarta to become a global city that is increasingly competitive, inclusive, and sustainable," he said.
Pramono revealed that Jakarta's position in the Global City Index showed an improving trend. Jakarta is now ranked 71st in the world, up from 74th previously.
This increase is the capital for the DKI Provincial Government to pursue a more ambitious target, namely to bring Jakarta into the ranks of the world's 20 best global cities by 2045.
To achieve this target, the DKI Provincial Government has prepared the Jakarta RISE#20 initiative as a roadmap for city transformation. The program is designed to align the direction of development, strengthen the economic foundation, and increase Jakarta's role in the network of global cities.
"This initiative serves as a roadmap to strengthen the foundation of development, encourage innovative and inclusive growth, and increase Jakarta's role at the regional and global levels," he said.
At the implementation level, technology is beginning to be applied in various strategic sectors. The DKI Provincial Government utilizes an intelligent traffic control system, the Jakarta Kini (JAKI) application, the Jakarta Satu platform, the digitization of traditional markets and MSMEs, to the supporting technology of the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID).
"The use of technology and AI is beginning to be applied in city governance. For example, through the Intelligent Traffic Control System, JAKI, Jakarta Satu, the digitization of traditional markets and MSMEs, and the use of technology by TPID to maintain the stability of Jakarta's prices and inflation, which in May 2026 was recorded at 2.49 percent year on year," explained Pramono.
The DKI Provincial Government also relies on technology to support flood management. Surveillance camera systems connected to the Department of Communication, Informatics and Statistics are used to monitor field conditions in real time. This data is the basis for decision-making on the operation of water gates and pumps when rainfall increases.
"This integrated system is the backbone for the SDA Service command center to make quick and accurate decisions regarding the operation of the sluice gates and pumps in real time, especially when the capital region enters the rainy season standby status," he said.
In addition to pursuing digital transformation, Pramono emphasized the importance of ensuring that public services remain inclusive. One of the focuses is in the transportation sector, as Jakarta's public transportation connectivity rate has reached 93 percent.
"Moda like MRT and Transjakarta continues to be developed to be friendly to people with disabilities and the elderly," he said.
Pramono emphasized that technology should not merely be a symbol of city modernization. Its utilization must be able to answer the needs of residents while improving the quality of public services that the community receives every day.
