Clash between Hotel Sultan Employees and the Breaking Apparatus during the Execution Process

JAKARTA - The implementation of the execution of the Sultan Hotel land in the Gelora Bung Karno area, Thursday, June 18, 2026 was marked by clashes between employees and supporters of the Sultan Hotel with the police. The riots occurred after the reading of the execution determination by the Central Jakarta District Court.

Based on monitoring at the location, the workers of the Sultan Hotel as well as the group representing the heirs and the mass of people who rejected the execution initially stayed in the disputed area even though they had been asked several times to leave the location by the police.

The Head of the Jakarta Central Metro Police, Reynold Elisa Partomuan, appealed to the masses to leave the execution area for the smooth running of the legal process.

"We ask people who are on the land to leave the area," said Reynold.

However, the situation then heated up when some of the crowd threw stones and empty bottles at the officers' barricades. The apparatus responded by spraying water cannons to disperse the crowd.

The riots lasted a short time. The crowd was eventually beaten back and moved into the Sultan Hotel area and the GBK area. After that, the situation gradually became conducive and the police remained on standby to secure the execution.

Before the clash occurred, the Panitera of the Central Jakarta PN, Azhar, read the determination of the land execution which was the object of the dispute.

In the process, the clerk first summoned the parties concerned, including PT Indobuildco as the executor of the execution. However, after being summoned three times, the company did not attend.

In the middle of the reading of the determination, the mass of execution opponents still stayed in front of the Sultan Hotel while expressing their rejection through an oration from the command car parked around the location.

In the determination, the Central Jakarta PN ordered the implementation of the evacuation of the former HGB 26/Gelora and the former HGB 27/Gelora land, along with the buildings and all assets attached to it.

"Granting the applicants' request. Order the Registrar of the Central Jakarta District Court or if he is unable to appoint a bailiff accompanied by two witnesses and if necessary with the assistance of the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia or other state power tools to carry out the execution of the eviction," said Azhar when reading the determination.

In addition, the court also ordered that the land area of former HGB 26/Gelora and former HGB 27/Gelora be returned to the reconvened plaintiffs in accordance with the decision which has the force of law.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of State Secretary, Bambang Eko Suhariyanto, emphasized that the execution was carried out based on the court's decision which has the force of law (inkrah).

According to Bambang, this step is also in line with President Prabowo Subianto's instructions regarding the discipline and return of state assets that have been controlled by other parties.

"On several occasions, President Prabowo conveyed that we must withdraw government assets, state assets that have been controlled by other parties," said Bambang.

He explained that the area that was executed was state assets that had been released by the government since 1959 for the purpose of holding the IV Asian Games. "Then we have to return that all assets must be under our own control, the government and the country," he said.

Despite the clashes, the process of reading the determination of execution continued until it was completed under the tight security of the combined TNI and Polri. The mass of execution opponents who had crowded the Sultan Hotel area since morning expressed their objections to the implementation of land clearance, but the authorities ensured that the legal process continued in accordance with the court's decision.
