Palace Mourns Palu Earthquake, Government Asks Residents to Beware of Aftershocks

BOGOR - The government has asked the people of Central Sulawesi to remain vigilant against the potential for aftershocks after the earthquake that shook Palu caused casualties and injuries.

The Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the government had coordinated with various parties, including the Central Sulawesi Provincial Government, to ensure that the handling of victims was optimal.

On behalf of the President and the government, Prasetyo also expressed condolences for the disaster.

"We express our condolences for the earthquake in Palu. There was one death and several victims who are currently undergoing treatment," said Prasetyo at the Garuda Yaksa Training Center, Hambalang, Bogor, Wednesday (17/6).

According to Prasetyo, coordination with the Governor of Central Sulawesi has been carried out since morning to ensure that all handling steps run well.

In addition to focusing on handling victims, the government also emphasizes the importance of providing information to the public so as not to ignore the potential for aftershocks.

Prasetyo reminded residents to remain vigilant and follow the directions of local disaster authorities.

The government, said Prasetyo, will continue to monitor the development of the situation on the ground and ensure that emergency handling needs can be met as quickly as possible.
