Police Check the Mental Health of a Man who Harasses a Pet Dog in Jakut

JAKARTA - Police are examining the mental health of a man with the initials OL (24) who was caught sexually harassing a dog at the Dogs Ministry pet cafe in Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

"We will take this man to a psychiatrist for a psychiatric examination," said Metro Penjaringan Police Chief Inspector Sampson Sosa Hutapea, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 17.

According to him, the man with the initials OL is currently still a witness and the results of this psychiatric examination will provide information regarding the reported psychiatric condition.

Previously, a man with the initials OL was reported to the North Jakarta Metro Police for being caught sexually harassing a dog on Monday (1/6) at 13.30 WIB at a pet cafe in the area, Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

The man with the initials OL (24) was reported to have violated Article 337 paragraph (1) letter (b) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding cruelty to animals with a threat of imprisonment of one year.

Officers secured a flash drive containing a video of sexual harassment and a mobile phone and a veterinary animal visa from a veterinarian. Officers have also examined a number of witnesses and evidence in the form of surveillance camera footage and others.

"We are still conducting an in-depth process related to this case," he said.

He said that this harassment action began when the victim came alone to a pet store in the Penjaringan area, North Jakarta. The perpetrator entered and played with the dog and the witness caught the perpetrator removing his genitals.

After that, the witness reported the incident in the tokodan message group, recording the immoral act committed by the perpetrator. "This perpetrator was reprimanded by the store employee and reported to the Metro Penjaringan Police," he said.
