Print World Record, Geely Emgrand i-HEV Claims Fuel Consumption of 2.22 Liters per 100 Km

JAKARTA - Geely officially introduced the latest Emgrand i-HEV hybrid sedan in the Chinese market with a starting price of 87,900 yuan or around Rp. 230 million. This model is in the spotlight because it is equipped with the latest hybrid technology which is claimed to have a thermal efficiency of the engine reaching 48.41 percent, one of the highest in the automotive industry today.

Launching from Carnewschina, Wednesday, June 17, Geely Emgrand i-HEV also managed to record its name in the Guinness World Records after recording a fuel consumption of 2.22 liters per 100 kilometers in real driving tests. The figure is even lower than the previous record held by the Toyota Prius with a consumption of 2.53 liters per 100 kilometers.

This sedan is built on the basis of the fifth generation Geely Emgrand gasoline engine and uses the BMA Evo modular platform. For the powertrain sector, the Emgrand i-HEV relies on a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine that is capable of producing 82 kW or about 110 hp.

The engine is combined with an integrated "11 in 1" electric drive system that includes a DHT transmission and electric motor, producing a combined power of up to 140 kW or the equivalent of 188 hp. In terms of design, Geely carries the latest design language that can be seen through the sharp-charactered headlights and the large-sized grille in the front.

The car still retains a conventional door handle, combined with flowing roof lines and 17-inch wheels. Its dimensions reach a length of 4,815 mm, a width of 1,885 mm, a height of 1,480 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,755 mm.

Entering the cabin, the Emgrand i-HEV is equipped with a 14.6-inch touch screen that is the center of operation of various vehicle features. Behind the steering wheel there is a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel and a four-spoke steering wheel with a flat-bottom design.

Geely also still provides a physical button below the screen to make it easier to operate certain features. The center console features two wireless charging pads for mobile phones, two cup holders, and a retractable model transmission lever.

The front seats already support electric settings, while the rear passengers get integrated armrests and headrests. A six-speaker audio system is also a standard feature to support comfort during the journey.

On the highest variant, this hybrid sedan has been equipped with a Level 2 driving assistance system which includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and a number of other active safety features. All variants are also equipped with front and side airbags for the driver and front passenger, plus curtain airbags that stretch along the side of the cabin.

Although it managed to record fuel consumption of 2.22 liters per 100 kilometers in special testing, Geely claims that the official consumption of the Emgrand i-HEV is 3.83 liters per 100 kilometers. Unlike plug-in hybrid models, this sedan does not support charging the battery via an external electrical plug.

Based on data from China EV DataTracker, Geely Emgrand sales reached 6,750 units throughout May 2026. In addition to this conventional hybrid version, Geely also offers a plug-in hybrid variant called Geely Galaxy Starshine 6 which recorded sales of 2,708 units in the same period.

Interestingly, the Geely Galaxy Starshine 6 is said to enter the Australian market in 2027 with the name Geely Emgrand EM-i. The presence of this model opens up opportunities for the Emgrand i-HEV to be marketed to various countries outside China in the future.
