Film Review The Undertaker 2 Afterlife: A Family Story with Comedy

JAKARTA - The success of his first film makes the Undertaker story continue and is brought by KlikFilm. The Undertaker 2: Afterlife film which was released in February this year received a positive response in Thailand and followed his first film.

The Undertaker 2: Afterlife tells the life of a village after two of its residents, Baikhao and Sak, were left behind. Village residents began to return to their normal routines as usual, until one day grandmother Yai Joi (Boonta Kutyapila) came back to life.

Yai Joi's grandmother woke up after being struck by lightning and was active as usual. The phenomenon was witnessed by Thoop (Phuwasit Ananbhornsiri) who was still grieving the death of his wife, Kwankhao (Eisaya Hosuwan). Thoop thinks he can bring Kwankhao back like Yai Joi.

Thoop also searches for what happens in the afterlife after a person dies because he hopes to meet Kwankhao again. Although this received strange responses from those around him, Thoop tried to realize his curiosity.

The Undertaker 2: Afterlife, which is a sequel, turns out to be able to stand on its own without having to rely on the first film. Before the second film, not many people knew about the first film and it turned out that it was okay.

In this film, the element of absurd comedy is really highlighted as the main dish. The story of the family and the sense of loss that serves as the background while the comedy side dominates the storyline. Various improvisations are presented to make the audience laugh.

On one side, the film is quite entertaining with the many comedies, but on the other hand, it is often the thing that makes the story long and jumpy and the connection. You will ask the appearance and transition from the main conflict to the comedy.

In the first part, The Undertaker 2: Afterlife tells the story of Yai Joi's grandmother and her closeness with her children and their lives after the death of her grandmother. Not completely gone, it turns out that the grandmother is present in the alleged moment.

Then, in the second round, the audience only delved into the character of Thoop who mourned the death of his wife. Thoop was helped by two friends to make various efforts so that he could bring back his wife.

The scenes that repeat and the transition between the story of Yai Joi's grandmother and Thoop take place several times. Although there is a comedy side that makes you laugh, this film also presents a touching story and a philosophy about death from various points of view.

The ending of the story that features a comparison of the story is considered reasonable and connects the two narratives. The journey is really tiring but still worth enjoying.

Meanwhile, the Thai film The Undertaker 2: Afterlife will be shown in Indonesian cinemas starting Wednesday, June 17.
