Four Drug Smuggling Attempts Disrupted in One Day, the Head Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of DKI Jakarta Emphasizes Zero Halinar

JAKARTA - The commitment of the prison staff in eradicating the circulation of drugs was again proven thanks to the ingenuity of the officers.

In almost the same period, officers at the Jakarta Narcotics Prison and the Central Jakarta Class I Detention Center (Salemba) managed to thwart four attempts to smuggle drugs into the prison environment on Monday (15/6/2026) morning and afternoon.

Two cases were successfully revealed by Jakarta Narcotics Prison officers through strict examination at the Main Security Gate (P2U).

In the first disclosure, officers secured an offender who carried two packages containing suspected narcotics with a total weight of 8.72 grams. Meanwhile, in the second case, officers again found two packages containing suspected narcotics with a total weight of 20.30 grams.

From the initial examination, the two perpetrators used the same modus operandi, namely hiding a suspected narcotics package in the intimate organs to deceive officers.

However, thanks to the thoroughness and vigilance of the officers, the attempt was successfully thwarted before the prohibited goods entered the prison.

On the same day, officers at the Jakarta Central Class I Detention Center (Salemba) also thwarted two attempts to smuggle drugs with different methods.

The first case involved a female visitor with the initials NA (22) who allegedly tried to smuggle Etomidate by disguising it in a cough medicine bottle.

The suspicion of the officers arose after finding the contents of the bottle did not match and had an unnatural smell.

Meanwhile, in the second disclosure, female officers managed to find a package suspected of being a type of methamphetamine with a weight of around 40.1 grams which was neatly hidden in the hair of a female visitor with the initials MU (39).

All the perpetrators and the evidence have been secured and handed over to the police for legal proceedings and further development.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Directorate General of Corrections Regional Office, Wachid Wibowo, emphasized that the success of the disclosure of four smuggling cases in one night showed the strong commitment of the corrections staff in creating a clean prison and detention center environment from drugs.

"The success of officers in thwarting four drug smuggling attempts at almost the same time is proof that the security system, early detection, and supervision throughout the DKI Jakarta Penitentiary Unit is running well. I give my highest appreciation to all officers who remain on alert, professional, and have integrity in carrying out their duties," said Wachid to reporters, Tuesday (16/6/2026).

Wachid emphasized that the Jakarta Regional Office of the Directorate General of Prisons and Penitentiaries would not provide any space for the circulation of drugs or other prohibited goods in prisons and detention centers.

Any smuggling attempt will be dealt with firmly in accordance with applicable laws. We will continue to strengthen surveillance, improve the quality of inspections, and strengthen synergy with law enforcement officers to ensure that prisons and detention centers in the DKI Jakarta region are completely free of drugs," he said.

"The success of this failure is proof that the security system is running and officers are working with integrity. We will continue to strengthen synergy with law enforcement officers and conduct continuous evaluations so that prisons and detention centers in the DKI Jakarta region remain free of drugs, illegal cellphones, and illegal collection practices," he concluded.
