US-Iran Peace Appreciation, MUI asks that the rights of the Palestinian people remain the main agenda

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) welcomes and gives high appreciation for the achievement of an initial peace agreement between the United States (US) and the Islamic Republic of Iran. This diplomatic relationship is expected to be able to ease geopolitical tensions and create stability in the Middle East region.

Chairman of the MUI for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, stated that this step of dialogue and diplomacy is in line with the universal values of Islam and the trust of the opening of the 1945 Constitution.

"I very much hope that this can end tensions, prevent the escalation of conflicts, and pave the way for the creation of regional security stability and a more sustainable world peace," said Sudarnoto in his official statement.

5 Strategic Impacts of the US-Iran Conflict Cessation for the World

According to the MUI, there are several crucial considerations why this peace between Washington and Tehran is so important for global stability, including:

Preventing Humanitarian Crisis: Stopping the broader threat of war that can trigger casualties and infrastructure damage in the Middle East. Securing the Trade Route: Re-guarantee the safety of international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz as the lifeline of the world's energy distribution. Stabilizing Oil Prices: Preventing a spike in oil and world energy prices due to tensions in the Gulf region. Suppressing Global Inflation: Keeping energy supplies from having a direct impact on inflation and the prices of basic necessities in developing countries. Focus on Development: Diverting large budgets from the arms race to development and economic cooperation.

"This peace agreement must be the starting point for the creation of a more just, inclusive, and sustainable regional security architecture, not just a temporary cessation of conflict," said Sudarnoto.

Urge the US to Use Influence to Stop Aggression in Gaza and Lebanon

MUI emphasized that this momentum for peace should not stop at the bilateral US-Iran relationship alone. Sudarnoto urged that this spirit be continued to stop violence and human rights violations in other conflict areas, especially in Gaza, Palestine, and Lebanon.

MUI asked the US government to use its political and diplomatic influence to force Israel to stop its military aggression and withdraw from Palestinian territory.

"True peace cannot be realized if violence against civilians continues. A cessation of war, the opening of humanitarian access, and a just political settlement for the Palestinian people must be the post-US-Iran deal agenda," he added.

MUI Recommendations for the International Community and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia

To keep this peace agreement lasting and not trigger new conflicts, MUI proposes the establishment of a permanent dialogue mechanism, the active involvement of the UN to monitor the implementation in a transparent manner, and the total compliance of both parties with the contents of the agreement.

In particular, MUI also provides three strategic recommendations to the Government of the Republic of Indonesia:

Active Diplomacy: Continue to play an active role as a moral and diplomatic force in promoting world peace.

Multilateral Cooperation: Develop economic and humanitarian partnerships to strengthen global stability.
