Germany Targets Renewable Energy Cooperation in Indonesia
JAKARTA - Germany sees great opportunities to expand cooperation with Indonesia in the field of renewable energy.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said this while giving a joint statement with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, June 15.
Steinmeier said climate change and global geopolitical tensions showed the risk of dependence on fossil energy. Therefore, cooperation on clean energy is considered increasingly important.
"We see how dependent the country is on energy supplies from fossil sources," said Steinmeier.
He said the opportunities for cooperation between German and Indonesian companies were still very large, especially to open new avenues in the renewable energy sector.
Steinmeier came to Indonesia with a business delegation from various economic and production fields. According to Steinmeier, this shows Germany's interest in strengthening investment in Indonesia.
Apart from the economy and energy, Steinmeier also touched on the importance of religious tolerance in Indonesia. He is scheduled to visit the Istiqlal Mosque and walk through the Silaturahmi Tunnel to the Jakarta Cathedral.
He said religious tolerance in Indonesia is a value that connects the two countries.
