Trail Run for Conservation, WWF invites the public to save the habitat of Sumatran elephants

JAKARTA - Not only running on the field or on the road, many people are now also running in the open air such as mountains or forests, which is called trail run.

With trail running which is now increasingly popular, this activity is not just a regular run, but can also be useful as a suggestion for social movements. One of them is to support wildlife conservation such as elephants in Sumatra.

This is reflected in the implementation of the Eco Echo Trail Run 2026, in Sentul, Bogor Regency, West Java, on June 21. This trail run event is a collaboration between WWF-Indonesia and SalingJaga (Kitabisa), which carries the theme "Every Step Echoes Convervation".

The focus of the event is to increase public awareness of the importance of maintaining the sustainability of the habitat of the Sumatran elephant. Director of People and Growth WWF-Indonesia, Rusyda Deli, said that every step of the participants at this event voiced the importance of elephant conservation.

"Every step taken by the participants is not just a journey to the finish line, but also a real contribution to voicing the importance of preserving the habitat of the Sumatran elephant," said Rusyda, at a press conference at Neo Atrium Central Park Mall 2, Saturday, June 13, 2026.

Through this trail run, it is hoped that it will help maintain the balance of the ecosystem for the protection of Sumatran elephants and restore the Peusangan Landscape in Aceh. The Peusangan Landscape is listed as one of the important areas for Sumatran elephants, because it serves as a habitat and natural travel route for elephants.

The existence of the Peusangan area also has a strategic role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem which provides benefits for the surrounding community.

Thus, through the Eco Echo Trail Run, WWF-Indonesia wants to emphasize that the public can actively participate in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem through various ways. The balance of the ecosystem can be seen when the last home of the Sumatran elephant is preserved, which is in harmony with the welfare of the surrounding community.

"Eco Echo Trail Run is a tangible manifestation of how conservation can become an inclusive movement and involve the community at large. Collaboration is needed between communities, communities, the private sector, government, and civil society organizations to ensure that important landscapes such as Peusangan are maintained for wildlife and humans who depend on the same environmental services," concluded Rusyda.
