Genesis Enters Le Mans, Hyundai Aims to Prove Itself in Europe
JAKARTA - Genesis, a luxury car brand owned by Hyundai Motor Group, made the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France as a proving ground for the quality and durability of vehicles.
As reported by Yonhap quoted Monday, June 15, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Co. Jose Munoz said the endurance race gave Hyundai the opportunity to showcase the quality of Genesis. The statement was made when Genesis made its debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans which began Saturday.
Le Mans is not an ordinary race. In this event, the car is driven for 24 hours. The team that covers the longest distance becomes the winner. Therefore, this race is a test for the engine, technology, strategy, and endurance of the vehicle.
Munoz also said the 24 Hours of Le Mans helped Hyundai understand the direction of its technology development.
Hyundai will use this racing momentum to expand the Genesis market in Europe. In the same report, Yonhap said Genesis plans to enter Poland, Portugal, Denmark, and Austria next year. With this expansion, Genesis will be present in 11 European countries.
Hyundai Motor Group executive Euisun Chung also came to the race track and supported the Genesis Magma Racing team, according to the group.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the main events of the FIA World Endurance Championship, the world endurance racing championship. For Genesis, this debut is part of Hyundai's efforts to strengthen its luxury brand position in the European market.
