Trump Wants to Meet with the Egyptian President on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, What's Up?
JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump wants to speak directly to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The discussion is scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France this month.
In a statement from the Egyptian Presidency on Sunday, June 14, quoted by AFP, El-Sisi is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with world leaders during the summit, "including a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump."
It added that El-Sisi's meeting will focus on "discussing ways to resolve the international geopolitical crisis and overcome its impact on trade, energy, and supply chains."
The G7 summit will be one of the first major international meetings since the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28, 2026, which shook the Middle East and expanded transatlantic tensions.
Based on the French presidential statement, French President Emmanuel Macron, who is hosting the summit in the city of Evian on June 15-17, said leaders from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates have been invited to discuss the war in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said last Thursday that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said he would not attend the summit due to "previous commitments."
The G7 brings together leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the US, along with invited leaders from several other countries, including Brazil and India.
Macron is scheduled to arrive in Evian on Sunday evening, June 14, while other leaders, including Trump, are expected to arrive on Monday, June 15.
Leaders will have a packed agenda with issues that could potentially stir up turmoil, including efforts to end the war in Iran and reopen the vital shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz.
