Indian Parliament Angry 3 Sailors Died AS Ogah Apologize

JAKARTA - The Indian Parliament on Sunday, June 14, demanded that the United States (US) apologize for the deaths of three Indian crew members (ABK) in a US military attack on a tanker off the coast of Oman.

Quoting AN, the dead included Aditya Sharma, a cadet; Shivanand Chaurashiya, a mechanic; and Patnala Suresh, a chief engineer; were killed aboard the Palau-flagged MT Settebello when US military aircraft fired on the tanker's engine room last week.

Meanwhile, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) summoned the US Ambassador to New Delhi to lodge a protest.

On Saturday, the US State Department quoted Foreign Minister Marco Rubio as telling his Indian counterpart that "all commercial vessels must immediately comply" with orders from US forces and that "violations" of the US blockade around the Strait of Hormuz would not be tolerated.

The statement then went viral in India, and was condemned by many Indian parliamentarians.

"Only a few days after three Indian sailors were killed in a US attack - no regrets, no apology. Instead, the United States continues to issue orders," Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Indian parliament, said via his social media account.

Member of Parliament from the Indian Congress Party, Shashi Tharoor, through his social media account admitted to being surprised by the US's attitude of not expressing any regret or condolences for the loss of Indian lives.

"Our Foreign Minister, Jaishankar, contacted Marco Rubio to express his protest against the killing of three Indians by the US military. Instead of expressing regret, Rubio reportedly 'chided' our Foreign Minister. He said: 'The US blockade violations will not be tolerated'," said Sanjay Singh, a member of parliament from the Aam Aadmi Party.

"The United States killed three Indians, and 65 Indians were almost saved with great difficulty. Three cargo ships were attacked with missiles. According to UN law, this is a terrorist act by the United States," he continued.

Over the past week, the US Navy has carried out attacks on three commercial vessels carrying Indian sailors.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the ships violated orders from US forces blocking the Strait of Hormuz in the Middle East far from the American continent.

IOS Marine, the operator of the MT Settebello that was attacked by the US, denied CENTCOM by saying that the piahk had been communicating but was still attacked mercilessly by the US Navy.

The attacks come amid an escalation between the US and Iran around the Strait of Hormuz, where according to data from the Indian Advanced Seafarers Union, at least 20,000 Indian nationals currently work on commercial vessels.
