Don't Miss Today's Ring Solar Eclipse

JAKARTA - Exactly today there is an annular solar eclipse which coincides with the phase of the New Moon. This phenomenon can be seen in a number of countries, including Indonesia.

Quoted from the LAPAN Space Science education page, the new moon phase occurred on June 10, at around 17.52 WIB / 18.52 WITA / 19.52 WIT. The moon will be 404,245 km from Earth (geocentric) and located in the constellation Taurus during this phase.

"The Moon not only forms conjunctions with the Sun during that phase, but also with Mercury so that it can be called the Moon-Mercury-Sun triple conjunction, although it cannot be observed with the naked eye because of its low brightness level," wrote LAPAN.

LAPAN describes the sky conditions on June 10 at dusk, Venus and Mars are tilted in a west-northwest direction until they set in a west-northwest direction at 19.00 and 20.30 local time, respectively. Mercury is invisible all night and is above the horizon together with the Sun and Moon.

As previously mentioned, this phenomenon coincides with an annular solar eclipse. Unfortunately not all regions on Earth can see it.

LAPAN said this phenomenon could be seen on Ellesmere and Baffin Islands in Canada. Then also the Partial Solar Eclipse can be seen in Greenland, Iceland, Europe, Russia, countries in Central Asia and western China.

Then for Greenland can see it at the peak. Siberia and the Arctic can also see the phenomenon of a solar eclipse.

The peak of the annular solar eclipse of June 10 is only 3.5 minutes. Indonesia only gets the process leading to the next time from 08.12.20 UTC or 15.12.20 WIB to 13.11.10 UTC or 20.11.19 WIB.
