Congratulations, Alwi Farhan Segel Wins the 2026 Australian Open Title
JAKARTA - Indonesian men's singles badminton player Alwi Farhan sealed the 2026 Australian Open title after defeating China's Dong Tian Yao with an identical score of 21-13, 21-13 in the final match at the Quaycentre, Sydney, Sunday.
"I feel very, very happy and happy because a few months ago I was really very shocked by the incident in the Thomas Cup. But thank God I thank all those who have criticized, supported and still support and pray," said Alwi as quoted from PBSI.
Alwi said he had read Dong's game by learning a lot from the Chinese singles meeting when he met Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah.
Through the experience gained by his two colleagues, Alwi tried to analyze Dong's advantages and weaknesses.
"He has a tall posture so the ball is sharp. In the first game I was able to control the game, it was tight in the second game early but I was able to return to the first game pattern," said Alwi.
Even though he could lock in the BWF Super 500 tournament title for the second time in his career, Alwi admitted that he did not want to be satisfied with his achievements this time.
"Because lately, what we know, we are facing a very difficult situation and I hope that Indonesian badminton can improve soon," said Alwi.
