Asal Garut Youth Reports to the Police, Allegedly Tricked by an Advertisement for a Candidate for ABK in Penjaringan
DS (24) a man from Garut, West Java, is suspected of being a victim of fraud with the modus as a prospective crew member (ABK) of a squid ship in a mess area of Muara Angke, RT 05/22, Jalan Dermaga Ujung Blok Empang, Pluit Village, Penjaringan District, North Jakarta.
The fraud was carried out by the perpetrators with the modus of job vacancy advertisements (loker) posted on social media.
In the job vacancy advertisement, the basic salary is worth IDR 1.2 million and later the workers will get an additional percentage of the catch of squid and fish while sailing.
"His job is to fish squid, the basic salary is IDR 1.2 million with an additional bonus of IDR. 8,000/Kg of squid, mixed fish IDR. 5,000/Kg and mackerel IDR. 7,000/Kg," said the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sunda Kelapa Police, Iptu Indra Basuki when confirmed, Sunday, June 14, 2026.
The advertisement also contains the promise of a signature contract the day before sailing and is given a bond worth Rp. 4-5 million for people at home for prospective ABK or for the handles of prospective ABK.
Seeing the locker, the victim was interested until finally sending a job application as a squid ship ABK. Furthermore, the victim DS came to the workers' mess in the Muara Angke area, North Jakarta. The victim met A, the manager of the mess of the prospective ABK.
However, when he arrived at the workers' mess, DS's suspicions began to arise. The money he promised was not in line with what the ship's agent had offered before.
"The reporter feels disappointed because there is no transparency about the cash bond at the beginning. As far as the reporter knows, the cash bond deduction is only for the cost of buying cigarettes, it turns out that there is a deduction for food, travel and sponsorship," he said.
In addition, the victim's DS mobile phone was also confiscated by the mess. For this act, DS did not accept it until he reported it to the 110 service.
"After receiving a report from the 110 call center, the Tanjung Priok Port Police contacted the Sunda Kelapa Police Station Operational Operations Desk to immediately check the crime scene," he said.
It turns out that it is true that there are prospective ABK of squid ships who feel cheated by the information about the lockers on the Angke estuary and the new estuary through advertisements on the Facebook social media account.
"We finally brought the reporter and the owner of the mess to the Muara Angke Sub-sector to be questioned," he said.
Then both parties agreed to resolve the problem in a family way.
Regarding travel costs, food costs, and Pelni ship ticket costs to DOBO are borne by the mes owner.
"The reporter was finally returned to the family and picked up by the family," he said.
Meanwhile, the modus operandi of the fraud case through the locker on social media is still being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sunda Kelapa Police.
