Steady! There is a New Feature for Strava for Mountain Climbers

JAKARTA - The Strava fitness app has launched a number of new features for mountain climbing (hiking) activities that can help users plan trips, navigate climbing routes, and share their experiences with the community.

According to official information in Jakarta, Sunday, Strava said the update came as hiking popularity increased as part of the sports trend. Based on the Strava Year In Sport report, the number of hiking clubs on the platform increased 5.8 times throughout 2025.

The update brings a variety of features that can be accessed for free by all users. Strava also provides more complete features specifically for subscribers, including advanced route planning, offline navigation, and cinematic sharing features for athletes who want to explore further.

To support travel planning, the application updates the map view with more complete information. Strava will display details of the path surface as well as various important points such as the starting point of the climb, picnic areas, and camping locations.

Strava also provides a Route Discovery feature that uses global activity data to display popular routes in an area.

In addition, the Route Creator feature allows users to design climbing routes with actual distance, elevation, and surface condition information. Then, the Route Storage feature allows users to save routes from various pages in the application to be accessed more easily.

On the navigation side, Strava presents a new feature called Route Exit Warning which will give notifications when users exit the planned route.

In addition, users can now take advantage of direct route navigation through the Apple Watch without having to open the phone. Routes created on Strava can be synchronized to compatible Garmin, Apple Watch, and Coros devices.

For users who often travel in areas with limited signals, the application still provides an offline route feature so that navigation can be carried out without an internet connection.

The app also presents a full-screen map during activity recording and actual altitude information to help users set the rhythm and energy during the climb.

In this update, Strava introduces a 3D Activity Map view that allows users to see climbing routes in the form of a three-dimensional landscape complete with topographic and elevation details.

Then for the social feature, the application presents the Repeat Activity feature which can display the climbing activity on the user's home screen so that their friends can see the route from start to finish.

Strava also provides a statistics sticker that contains information on distance, elevation, and activity duration to share on social media.

Meanwhile, the Flyover feature allows users to create a three-dimensional animation of the route that has been taken based on actual elevation data. This feature is available exclusively for subscribers.

Currently most of the features are already available in the Strava app, while the map style update will be launched in September-October this year.
