Trump Tightens Cyber Security of US Secret Systems

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump has signed a new memorandum regulating cybersecurity for government systems that handle classified state information.

It was reported by Anadolu Agency, quoted Saturday, June 13, the memo signed on Friday set new guidelines for the National Security Systems or NSS. NSS is the US national security system used to manage sensitive and classified information.

The White House said the memo establishes clear structures, authorities, roles, and responsibilities in the governance of the NSS. These rules also emphasize the accountability of system owners and operators to cyber security standards.

The memo restructures the Committee on National Security Systems. The committee will be modernized for the first time in more than three decades.

The committee is tasked with establishing basic cyber security standards for all NSS. The committee will also strengthen inter-agency coordination so that cyber defense can be applied to all national security systems.

In addition to overseeing the NSS across the federal government, the committee can issue binding security directives. This means that system operators must comply with them.

The director of the National Security Agency or NSA will lead the committee. According to the White House, the NSA can use its technical capabilities to provide defense and follow-up assistance to strengthen the security of the NSS across the US government.
