Commission X of the DPR supports the increase in teacher allowances: the 2027 budget should not only focus on infrastructure

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, supports the government's policy to increase allowances for non-ASN teachers and ASN teachers as conveyed by the Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti. According to Lalu, the government's move to increase teacher allowances is a form of attention to the welfare of educators who have been one of the main needs in the education sector.

"We support an increase in allowances for non-ASN teachers and ASN teachers. This policy is a positive step in efforts to improve the welfare of teachers," said Lalu Hadrian, Saturday, June 13.

Previously, the Minister of Education and Culture Abdul Mu'ti said that the government had increased the allowance for non-ASN teachers from Rp. 1.5 million to Rp. 2 million. Meanwhile, the allowance for ASN teachers is given as the basic salary. In addition, teachers' salaries and allowances are now transferred directly into the accounts of each recipient.

However, the PKB legislator from Dapil NTB II emphasized that his party saw in the 2027 budget posture, the indicative ceiling more focused on providing facilities and infrastructure. He assessed that there were still a number of homework (PR) that the government must complete in the education sector, ranging from improving the welfare of teachers to improving student quality and the quality of educators.

"Don't forget, we still have homework to improve the welfare of teachers, then improve the quality of students and teachers. The teacher quality improvement program is also not included in the indicative budget ceiling for 2027," he said.

Therefore, Commission X of the DPR RI reminded the government that the development of educational facilities and infrastructure did not rule out the aspect of improving the quality of human resources in the field of education.

"We remind you that in addition to improving facilities and infrastructure, the welfare of teachers should not be neglected. The improvement of student quality and the improvement of teacher quality should also not be ignored," he said again.

Then Hadrian ensured that Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives would further examine and discuss the indicative ceiling of the 2027 education budget to ensure that all basic education needs can be accommodated properly.

"We will discuss this indicative ceiling and find solutions so that basic education needs can be quickly resolved," he concluded.
