Australian Open 2026: Indonesian Women's Doubles Duo Qualify for Semifinals
JAKARTA - The women's doubles of Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari and Rachel Allessy Rose/Febi Setianingrum managed to continue their journey to the semifinals of the 2026 BWF Super 500 Australian Open.
The pair of Febriana/Meilysa, who are ranked as the seventh seed, first secured the four-big ticket after successfully sending home the Malaysian representative, Low Zi Yu/Noraqilah Maisarah, in two games 21-13 and 21-17 on Friday, June 12, 2026.
"In the first game, we were able to control the game even in the second game interval, but the opponent was able to speed up after that so we were a little panicked and lost a lot of points," said Meilysa after the match.
Febriana/Meilysa will next face fourth-seeded Hsu Yin-Hui/Lin Jhih Yun. The pair from China Taipei qualified for the semifinals by stopping Luo Yi/Wang Ting Ge (China) in three games.
"In the semifinals, we have to be more confident. If from the game, so far it has been in line with expectations. What we have prepared from before we can apply," said Febriana.
Rachel/Febi, who are ranked fifth, then followed to the semifinals after stopping the third-seeded pair of Gabriela Stoeva/Stefani Stoeva (Bulgaria) in two games with a score of 21-15 and 21-12.
This is the second consecutive semifinal that Rachel/Febi has achieved. Previously last week, they also made it to the top four when appearing at the 2026 Indonesia Open which took place at Istora Senayan, Jakarta.
"The key to victory today is to better organize the game, organize the pattern first, when there is an opportunity to attack, we will attack back. Thank God, I'm happy to be back in the semifinals, hopefully we can defend the title here," said Febi.
In the semifinals, a tough test awaits Rachel/Febi. This is because the pair, who are the defending champions, will face the first seed from China, namely the pair Yia Yifan/Zhang Shu Xian.
In addition to the two women's doubles who were finalists last year, the semifinal tickets were also obtained by the men's doubles Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani. The pair qualified by defeating Fang-Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee (China Taipei) in two games 21-17 and 21-11.
