OpenAI boss Sam Altman postpones visit to Korea, agenda with Samsung follows
JAKARTA - OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has postponed his visit to South Korea, which was originally scheduled for next week. Citing a Yonhap report, Friday, June 12, the delay was said to be due to personal reasons.
Altman was originally scheduled to arrive in South Korea on Sunday for a two-day visit. His agenda includes meetings with a number of major technology companies, including Samsung Electronics, to discuss cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence or AI.
He is also scheduled to meet with executives from Naver and Kakao. Naver is known as a major internet portal operator in South Korea, while Kakao manages popular mobile platforms in the country.
"South Korea is a very important country and a strategic partner for OpenAI," OpenAI said in a statement.
OpenAI stated that the ongoing cooperation with local partners in South Korea would continue as planned. The company also hopes that Altman can reschedule a visit in the near future and meet in person with partners there.
However, OpenAI did not elaborate on the personal reasons behind the delay. A new schedule for Altman's visit has also not been announced.
OpenAI calls South Korea an important country and strategic partner. Therefore, the postponement of Altman's visit made the schedule for meetings with Samsung, Naver, and Kakao wait for new certainty.
