United Arab Emirates Launches a Program to Provide Fake Legs to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (UAE) - The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday launched an expanded prosthetic support program for Palestinians who lost limbs after being injured in the war in the Gaza Strip.

The program will provide prosthetic legs to restore mobility, encourage recovery, and help them rebuild their lives with new hope, state news agency WAM reported.

Under the program, Step of Hope, patients will be evaluated at the UAE Floating Hospital in Al Arish, Egypt, where measurements are taken to customize the prosthetic leg.

The team in Gaza will use 3D scanning to "map the patient's remaining limbs". This data will be shared with the floating hospital, where the prosthetic legs will be made and delivered to the patient.

"The Hope step embodies the UAE's firm commitment to alleviate the suffering of our Palestinian brothers and sisters," said Mohamed Al Sharif, official spokesperson for the UAE's Operation Gallant Knight 3 campaign, launching The National (12/6).

"Although this is not our first attempt at prosthetic care, it marks the launch of a fully integrated ecosystem with the International Charity Organization. We anticipate more charities will join this alliance in the near future," he concluded.

Further explained, this program will strive to improve the economy in Gaza, where factories will be built to produce prosthetics.

In addition, storage warehouses will be established and funding for existing workshops will be increased.

Field hospitals have been installing prosthetics for people who lost limbs in the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza since 2024. This project is carried out in cooperation with the International Charity Organization (ICO).

"Our collaboration with Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 reflects the deeply rooted humanitarian values of the UAE leadership, which places human dignity at the center of its global mission," explained ICO Secretary-General Dr. Khalid Abdulwahab Al Khaja.

"ICO is fully committed to expanding this project to reach as many beneficiaries as possible. This initiative is built on our ongoing humanitarian partnership, which has previously sent food supplies, essential medical equipment, and essential medicines to Gaza, made possible by the continued support of our leadership and the unwavering generosity of the UAE community," he said.

It is known that Operation Gallant Knight 3 was launched after the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7, 2023.

The UAE has sought to provide humanitarian support as a sign of solidarity with Palestine, with ongoing aid efforts despite recent attacks by Iran in the region.
