Smoke in the Cockpit, Tigerair Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Hokkaido

JAKARTA - A Tigerair Taiwan plane from Taipei made an emergency landing at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, after reports of smoke in the cockpit, according to the Japanese Ministry of Transportation.

There were no reports of injuries among the 179 passengers and crew on board the Airbus A320, the Japanese Ministry of Transport said at New Chitose Airport, as quoted by the Kyodo News Agency, Friday, June 12.

The plane with Flight Number 234 to Sapporo reported a plume of smoke coming out of the cockpit at around 10.45 local time. As a result of the incident, one of the runways at the airport was temporarily closed.
