Inaugurates Export Facility in Tuban, SIG Expands Global Expansion to the United States Market
PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) is further strengthening its business transformation and global expansion steps by inaugurating a port and production facility for exports in Tuban, East Java, on Thursday, June 11. The presence of this modern facility is an important milestone in SIG's strategy to expand the international market, as well as improving the competitiveness of the national cement industry in the midst of industrial overcapacity challenges.
The export facility with a capacity of up to 1 million tons of cement per year will be the main basis for strengthening SIG exports, especially to the United States, through a strategic cooperation between SIG subsidiaries, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, and Taiheiyo Cement Corporation from Japan. Throughout 2026, SIG targets exports of 450 thousand metric tons (MT) of special type cement to the United States gradually.
SIG President Director, Indrieffouny Indra said, the operation of the export facility in Tuban marked SIG's strategic step in building new sources of growth while strengthening Indonesia's position in the global building materials industry supply chain. "The momentum of the inauguration of this export facility brings SIG to its main goal, namely creating growth opportunities, supporting sustainable development, and making Indonesia's name shine in the international arena through the products of the nation's children," said Indrieffouny Indra.
He added that the transformation of SIG is not only focused on strengthening the domestic market, but is also aimed at increasing the contribution of the export market to increase production utility and expand long-term business opportunities.
"In the midst of a domestic industry that is experiencing excess capacity, business actors including SIG are required to continue to innovate and implement strategic steps to become more competitive and become the main choice of customers in the midst of tight market competition," said Indrieffouny Indra.
The SIG export facility in Tuban is equipped with modern technology to support efficient and sustainable operations. The terminal with a capacity of up to 50,000 DWT is supported by a 4.1 kilometer tube conveyor, a tripper conveyor, and a ship loader with a capacity of 1,000 tons per hour (tph) which is able to send bulk cement directly from the factory to the ship at the pier.
Meanwhile, its production facilities are equipped with a blending silo system with a capacity of 8,000 tons, a clinker silo system with a capacity of 15,000 tons, and two cement silo systems with a capacity of 18,000 tons each. In particular, Indrieffouny Indra expressed his appreciation to Taiheiyo Cement Corporation for the synergy and strategic collaboration between the two groups of companies. According to him, this cooperation not only strengthens the economic relationship between Indonesia and Japan, but also opens up business development opportunities and increases the capabilities of both parties.
SIG's President Commissioner, Sigit Widyawan, emphasized that the inauguration of this export facility is not the end of achievement, but the beginning of a new challenge to maximize the facility as a driving force for sustainable growth.
"Maintaining quality remains the main priority to increase competitiveness. After that, the aspect of efficiency must also continue to be strengthened in order to be more competitive and open up opportunities to expand into even wider markets," said Sigit Widyawan.
The inauguration of the export facility in Tuban is part of SIG's commitment to strengthen business resilience through market diversification, increasing product added value, and strengthening Indonesia's position as a competitive cement industry player in the global market.
