FOZ, POROZ, and BAZNAS Strengthen Collaboration to Optimize the Potential of Rp340 Trillion Zakat
JAKARTA - The Zakat Forum (FOZ) together with the Association of Zakat Management Organizations (POROZ) and the National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) agreed to strengthen collaboration and integration of national zakat data to optimize the potential of zakat which is estimated to reach Rp. 340 trillion per year.
This commitment emerged in the Leaders Talk 2026 with the theme "Strengthening National Zakat Collaboration to Create a Resilient Indonesia" which was held at The Tower BSI Gatot Subroto, Jakarta, Wednesday, June 10.
The forum, which was attended by 89 member institutions of FOZ, became an event to consolidate the national zakat movement to strengthen inter-institutional synergy while increasing the effectiveness of the management and utilization of zakat for the welfare of the community.
Chairman of BAZNAS RI, Sodik Mudjahid, said that the potential for national zakat is still very large and has not been optimally developed. According to him, the realization of zakat collection is currently far below the available potential.
"The potential of Indonesian zakat reaches around Rp. 340 trillion, but the realization is still around Rp. 44 trillion. Collaboration of human resources, networks, and integration of muzakki data are the key to increasing this achievement," he said.
Efforts to strengthen collaboration also received support from the Islamic banking sector. Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) expressed its readiness to support the digitization of zakat management through the development of a digital data center that can be used by regional BAZNAS and Zakat Management Organizations (OPZ).
This step is considered important to increase efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the management of zakat funds.
POROZ General Secretary, Angga Nugraha, assessed that the signing of the inter-institutional memorandum of understanding was a strategic step in building the unity of the national zakat movement.
"The huge potential of zakat requires a united step. This MoU is a foothold to strengthen synergy between institutions," he said.
On the same occasion, the Acting Deputy for Social Welfare Improvement Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for People's Empowerment, Dyah Tri Kumolosari, highlighted the importance of strengthening the role of zakat in supporting the agenda of poverty alleviation.
According to him, there are still around 2.2 million people living in extreme poverty, so a stronger collaboration between the government and zakat institutions is needed.
"The potential of zakat will have a significant impact if it is managed based on data and integrated. The focus of intervention in priority villages and regions must be strengthened to encourage poverty graduation," he said.
Director of Zakat and Wakaf at the Ministry of Religion, Waryono Abdul Ghafur, also emphasized the importance of eliminating sectoral ego in zakat management so that the benefits produced can be felt more widely by the community.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of FOZ, Wildhan Dewayana, introduced the concept of dual track activities as a strategy to strengthen national zakat. This approach combines strengthening the internal performance of institutions with improving collective performance through collaboration supported by four main pillars, namely communication, harmonization, integration, and ecosystem connectivity.
One of the important results of the forum was a joint commitment to build an integrated national zakat data dashboard platform. The agreement was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding regarding the development of a common data system.
Head of Innovation and Literacy at FOZ, Eko Muliansyah, said that the digital transformation of zakat is no longer focused on the development of applications alone, but on strengthening the data ecosystem that can be used together.
"What is needed today is not the perfection of the system, but the willingness to start. Integrated data will turn a pile of information into an impact leap," he said.
Through Leaders Talk 2026, FOZ, POROZ, and BAZNAS emphasized their commitment to strengthen collaboration, data integration, and program synergy as an effort to optimize the role of zakat in the development of human welfare and poverty alleviation in Indonesia.
