Iran Says Key Parts of Draft Deal with United States Have Been Resolved

JAKARTA - Senior Iranian officials said on Kami Day, the main part of the text of the agreement with the United States had been completed, but said Washington was undermining progress through repeated changes of attitude.

Iran said on Thursday that "the main parts" of a memorandum of understanding with the United States had been settled, while Washington was undermining progress through repeated changes of attitude.

Speaking on state television late Thursday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran had made it clear it would not accept what he called "unlawful" demands during indirect contacts with the US.

"The main part of the memorandum of understanding has been completed," Baghaei said, adding that Washington's "contradictory position" was disrupting the process, quoted by Anadolu (12/6).

Furthermore, he said, the US in recent days has tried to impose "unusual demands" on Tehran, but Iran has shown that they "will never surrender to illegitimate conditions."

Baghaei also said the diplomatic track had been affected by what he called the US' illegal actions against Iran.

He added that the mediators remained active and that Tehran had conveyed its position to them "very clearly."

The statement came hours after US President Donald Trump said he had called off a planned attack on Iran and that final discussions and details of a potential deal had been agreed to by various regional and international parties.
