4.151 Joint Personnel Dispatched to Control Student Actions in Jakarta Today
JAKARTA - The Metro Jaya Police together with the TNI elements deployed a total of 4,151 joint personnel to escort and secure the delivery of opinions by a number of student elements in Central Jakarta, on Friday, June 12.
The Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, in his statement in Jakarta, Friday, said that the deployment of personnel was carried out to ensure that the delivery of aspirations activities ran safely and orderly.
"Polda Metro Jaya respects the right of citizens to express their opinions in public. The presence of personnel in the field is to provide services and security so that activities run safely, orderly, and do not interfere with other people," said Budi, quoted by Antara.
Budi explained that the thousands of joint personnel consisted of 3,651 personnel from the police and were supported by 500 personnel from the TNI. In addition to deploying personnel, the police have also mapped a number of steps to anticipate the dynamics of the situation on the ground.
"This anticipation includes the potential for traffic density, vehicle convoys, disruption of public facilities, to the potential for criminal acts," said Budi.
Regarding traffic flow around the area of Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan and Monas, Budi explained that the police had prepared a vehicular flow engineering that was situational.
"We have prepared traffic arrangements on a situational basis. If there is congestion or a need to divert traffic around the action location, officers will carry out traffic engineering while prioritizing the safety of action participants and road users," he said.
The Polda Metro Jaya also appealed to all the action masses to be able to convey their aspirations peacefully and comply with applicable laws and regulations.
"We appeal to the participants of the action to remain orderly, not to bring dangerous objects, not to commit vandalism, and together to keep the situation conducive," said Budi.
