BEM Holds Demonstration at HI Roundabout Today, Police Urges Drivers to Find Alternative Routes
JAKARTA - The Directorate of Traffic of the Polda Metro Jaya appealed to the public to anticipate the potential for traffic congestion in the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI) area, Central Jakarta, on Friday, June 12 following the planned demonstration action to be held by the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the University of Indonesia (UI).
Based on information provided by the Traffic Management Center (TMC) of the Polda Metro Jaya, the action to deliver opinions is scheduled to take place from 10.00 WIB until it is completed.
"In connection with the activities of the presentation of opinions by the UI Student Executive Board (BEM) on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 10.00 WIB until it is completed, it is informed about the potential for traffic congestion in the HI roundabout area (Central Jakarta)," wrote TMC Polda Metro Jaya.
The HI roundabout area is one of the main activity centers and transportation hubs in Jakarta which connects the Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and Jalan MH Thamrin corridors. The area is crossed by thousands of vehicles every day heading to business centers, offices, shopping centers, to public transportation access.
With the demonstration, traffic around HI roundabout is expected to slow down, especially during rush hours when community activity is still high.
Polda Metro Jaya appealed to the public who have activities in the Central Jakarta area to consider using alternative routes to avoid vehicle congestion.
"It is estimated that there will be traffic density on the road section around Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin. For drivers, it is advised to avoid the road section around this area or find alternative routes," the statement continued.
Police officers will be on alert at a number of points to carry out security activities and regulate traffic flow so that community mobility continues to run well during the action.
In addition to regulating traffic, the police will also engineer vehicle traffic if necessary to adjust to the situation on the ground.
People who are active in the Sudirman, Thamrin, and Central Jakarta areas on Friday afternoon are urged to take into account the travel time earlier and monitor the latest traffic information through official police channels.
Road users are also asked to comply with the instructions of officers, follow traffic signs, and prioritize safety while driving.
With the BEM UI action, the Sudirman-Thamrin corridor is expected to be one of the points that need to be watched out for because it has the potential to increase vehicle volume and traffic density throughout the event.
