FSB foiled attack on Russian defense official planned by Ukraine

JAKARTA - Officers from the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) have thwarted a terrorist attack attempt on a Ministry of Defense official, and detained a foreign citizen recruited by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), the FSB said in a statement.

"The Russian Federal Security Service has foiled a terrorist attack on a member of one of the units of the Russian Ministry of Defense, planned by the Ukrainian intelligence agency," the statement said, launching TASS (11/6).

According to the security agency, "a foreign citizen born in 1990, who was assigned by the Ukrainian intelligence agency to shoot a Russian soldier, has been identified and detained in the Moscow Region."

"The suspect admitted during interrogation that he was recruited by Ukrainian Security Service officers in an EU country where he fled to avoid criminal prosecution in his home country," the FSB added.

In return, his recruiters promised to help him obtain refugee status in the European Union.
