Protests against Economic Policies, Students from Jabodetabek Will Hold an Action at Bundaran HI Tomorrow
JAKARTA - A number of students from various universities in the Jabodetabek area plan to hold a demonstration in the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI) area, Central Jakarta, on Friday, June 12, 2026. The action was held as a form of conveying aspirations related to the condition of the national economy and a number of government policies that are considered burdensome for the community.
The plan for the action was conveyed by the Chairman of the National Student Front (FMN), Dimas. According to him, the action participants are scheduled to gather before the implementation of Friday Prayer, then move to HI Circle to convey demands to the government.
"Tomorrow we will gather before Jumatan. The plan is to pray Friday at HI before the action begins," Dimas told the media, Thursday, June 11, 2026.
Dimas explained that the preparation for the action was carried out through a consolidation held at the University of Indonesia (UI), Depok, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The meeting was attended by representatives of various student organizations and community groups, including student executive bodies (BEM) from a number of campuses in Jabodetabek.
According to Dimas, this demonstration was motivated by the students' concern about the national economic condition, which was considered to still leave various problems. He assessed that the wealth of resources and great potential possessed by Indonesia has not been fully reflected in the level of people's welfare.
"Indonesia is a rich country, but its people are not prosperous. Indonesia is a big country, but there are still many people who have not been free from hunger," he said.
In a statement of position prepared for the action, students highlighted a number of economic issues and government policies that were considered to be less in the interests of the people. They also assessed that various criticisms that have developed in the community have not received an adequate response from the government.
In addition, students raised concerns about the use of state apparatus to dampen voices that are opposed to the government. This issue is one of the highlights in the series of demands that will be submitted during the action.
"We see that various public criticisms have not been answered in depth and there are still many issues that require serious attention from the government," he said.
In the action, the masses plan to bring five main demands, including stopping the waste of state funds, reducing the price of basic necessities and fuel (BBM), stopping the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG), stopping the development of the Red and White Village Cooperative, and rejecting the practice of militarism in the civil space.
In addition, the masses also urged President Prabowo Subianto to recognize and evaluate various government policies that were considered to cause problems among the public.
"Urging President Prabowo Subianto to admit the government's mistakes for various problems that have occurred," concluded Dimas.
