Pakistan-Egypt push for diplomatic track to de-escalate US-Iran conflict
JAKARTA - Pakistan Foreign Minister (Menlu) Ishaq Dar and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of continuing dialogue and diplomatic engagement amid the renewed escalation of the battle between the United States and Iran.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Pakistan, the two ministers exchanged views on various regional issues under development and reaffirmed their commitment to diplomacy as a means to promote peace and stability.
The phone call took place as the United States and Iran resumed air raids the previous night, Wednesday (10/6), although the two sides had reached a ceasefire in April to permanently end the war that has been going on since February 28.
As reported by ANTAR from Anadolu, Thursday, June 11, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Foreign Minister Abdelatty appreciated Pakistan's continued mediation efforts.
The two leaders also expressed the hope that various ongoing diplomatic initiatives could produce early understanding among the parties concerned, as well as contribute to sustainable peace and stability in the region.
Foreign Minister Abdelatty also extended an invitation to Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar to attend the Regional Four (R-4) ministerial meeting to be held in Egypt at the end of June. Foreign Minister Dar also accepted the invitation.
The two ministers agreed to continue to maintain close communication and continue consultations on regional developments, as well as various issues of common concern, according to a Pakistani Foreign Ministry statement.
