Knicks Make Historic Comeback Against San Antonio in NBA Finals

JAKARTA - The New York Knicks recorded the biggest comeback in NBA finals history after managing to come back from 29 points down to win over the San Antonio Spurs in the fourth game.

The Knicks made history after recording a dramatic 107-106 victory on Thursday, June 11, 2026. The result brought the Knicks one step closer to ending the NBA championship drought that has lasted since 1973.

New York's winning hero was OG Anunoby. The 29-year-old forward scored the decisive point through a tip-in after Jalen Brunson's three-point shot missed when the game time was only 2.1 seconds left.

The moment started when Brunson received a throw-in from Anunoby and immediately took a long-range shot with 4.3 seconds left. The ball missed, but Anunoby managed to reach the rebound between Dylan Harper and Devin Vassell to put the ball into the ring.

Knicks coach Mike Brown revealed that during the break he asked Anunoby to be more aggressive in chasing offensive rebounds.

"In life and sports, you do need a little luck. But you can also create your own luck. That's the biggest message we have," Brown said as quoted by ESPN.

In addition to scoring the victory, Anunoby also made a crucial block against De'Aaron Fox's layup attempt when the game was left with 11.7 seconds. This action kept the Knicks' chances of turning things around.

Anunoby is now a strong candidate for the NBA Finals MVP award. In the four finals so far, he has recorded an average of 23.8 points with a shooting accuracy of 58 percent.

"We know basketball is a momentum game. We are a tough team and have come back from behind several times. We just keep playing, cutting the point gap a little bit at a time until we finally win," said Anunoby.

The Knicks' success surpassed the previous NBA finals comeback record held by the Boston Celtics when they came back from a 24-point deficit against the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of the 2008 NBA finals.

Important contributions also came from Jose Alvarado. The backup guard scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter and helped the Knicks keep the pressure on the Spurs until the end of the game.

In the first half, the Knicks performed far from their best performance and fell behind by 29 points. However, the Spurs' game dropped drastically after the break. The San Antonio-based team was only able to shoot with 20 percent accuracy in the second half of the game after previously recording 60 percent in the first two quarters.

The Knicks need only one more win to end a long wait of more than five decades. The fifth game will take place at the Spurs' home at the Frost Bank Center, San Antonio, on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
