Golf as an Extracurricular Activity at School, the Benefits of Increasing Discipline to Decision-Making Ability

JAKARTA - Extracurricular activities are no longer synonymous with popular sports such as football, basketball, or badminton.

A number of schools have started to offer a wider range of activities to help students develop their interests, talents, and life skills.

One of them is golf, a sport that is increasingly introduced to students because it is considered capable of training discipline, concentration, sportsmanship, and the ability to make decisions from an early age.

In the educational environment, golf is also seen as a means of character formation. Every shot teaches patience, focus, and responsibility for the decisions made.

These values are considered relevant to support the development of students, both in the school environment and in daily life.

Seeing this potential, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong presents a golf extracurricular program through cooperation with Damai Indah Golf BSD. This program provides an opportunity for students to learn the sport of golf in a more structured way with the guidance of professional instructors.

The collaboration allows students to access international standard golf course facilities located in the BSD area, South Tangerang. In addition to practicing playing techniques, participants are also introduced to various aspects that are an important part of the sport of golf.

This extracurricular program includes basic and advanced technique training, introduction to the ethics of playing, and simulation of various conditions commonly encountered on the field. Through this approach, students not only learn to improve their playing skills, but also build a healthy competitive mentality.

This activity is open to all BINUS SCHOOL Serpong students, both those who are new to golf and those who have previous experience. Training sessions will be held regularly every week with the guidance of certified instructors.

BINUS SCHOOL Serpong Director, Gerald Donovan, said the presence of golf extracurriculars further complements the choice of activities available for students. Currently, the school has more than 80 extracurricular activities that can be chosen according to the interests and talents of each student.

"We believe that children who learn golf today are preparing themselves to shape their personalities and careers in the future. BINUS SCHOOL Serpong prepares its students to become individuals who are academically accomplished, confident, and have a strong character in facing the ever-evolving dynamics of the global world," said Gerald.

The same thing was conveyed by the General Manager of Damai Indah Golf, Hengki Wirawan. According to him, golf can be an effective medium to build the character of the younger generation from an early age.

"Damai Indah Golf believes that golf is not only about the ability to play on the field, but also about building character. We hope that this program can help produce a generation of young people who are disciplined, confident, and ready to face the challenges of the future,"

"If later a successful golf athlete is born, of course we will be proud, but more importantly is the birth of individuals who have strong characters to succeed in whatever field they choose," he said.

In addition to improving sports skills, golf also offers a number of benefits for physical and mental health. This activity helps maintain body fitness, trains motor coordination, and sharpens the ability to manage pressure and emotions when faced with various situations on the field.

On the other hand, introducing golf since school age is considered to open up various opportunities in the future. Not a few universities both at home and abroad provide scholarship pathways for students with sports achievements, including golf.
