Police Arrest Bird Thief Worth Millions of Rupiah in Banguntapan, Bantul

BANTUL - The Banguntapan Police, Bantul, DI Yogyakarta, arrested a man with the initials NFS (44) who was determined to steal a bird of the Batu Parrot type along with its cage for Rp10 million.

Panit Reskrim of the Banguntapan Police, Ipda Nanang Adnan Tirtana, said the incident occurred on June 5 when the owner put the bird and its cage on the porch of the house, which was then left by the owner to work near his house.

"Around 16.30 WIB the reporter returned home and found the black-crowned night heron and its cage were no longer in their original place," said Ipda Nanang as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 10.

The owner, he continued, had tried to find and ask the residents around his house but no one knew.

"The owner tried to see the CCTV footage, it turned out that the murai bird and its cage had been taken by an unknown man," he said.

According to him, the owner then reported it to the police and by the police an examination was carried out at the scene of the crime (TKP) by examining witnesses and also CCTV.

"After receiving CCTV, we began to get clues regarding the identity and whereabouts of the perpetrator," said Nanang.

NFS, he said, was arrested at a housing located in Banguntapan, Bantul on Saturday (6/6).

According to him, NFS admitted that he had stolen one bird of the Batu Parrot and its cage.

"The motive is that the perpetrator does have a hobby of keeping birds and has a fondness for birds that are expensive," explained Nanang.

Nanang explained that the modus operandi of the suspect carried out his actions starting from the NFS who deliberately passed in front of the house using a motorcycle.

The motorcycle, continued Nanang, was then parked near the owner's house and the suspect began his actions on foot.

"The suspect in 2021 also committed a crime of theft with violence but in the jurisdiction of the Jogja Police," he said.

According to Nanang, the perpetrator will be charged with the criminal act of theft as referred to in Article 476 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP).
