The Ministry of PU Allocates Rp421.9 Billion to Build a Paralympic Training Center, Check Out the Facilities

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is building a Paralympic Training Center in Delingan Village, Karanganyar Regency, Central Java, with a budget of IDR 421.9 billion.

The presence of the training center is part of the development of sports infrastructure aimed at supporting the training of Indonesian disabled athletes so that they can train more optimally.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said Indonesia has great potential to produce successful Paralympic athletes at the world level.

He assessed that the support of adequate facilities is expected to help athletes improve the quality of training.

"I believe Indonesia has great potential in producing talented Paralympic athletes. With the construction of the Paralympic Training Center, it is hoped that Indonesian Paralympic athletes can train more optimally and purposefully," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Wednesday, June 10.

The Paralympic Training Center was built on an area of more than 80,000 square meters with a total building area of 34,346 square meters.

The facilities consist of a GOR 1 building with an area of 17,482 square meters and a dormitory building with an area of 16,864 square meters.

The dormitory building consists of two apartment towers with a height of four floors with a capacity of 188 rooms that can accommodate 392 athletes.

The sports facilities available include the main swimming pool, heating pool, recovery pool, boccia arena, shooting arena, table tennis and wheelchair table tennis arena, badminton arena, weightlifting arena, and blind judo arena.

In addition, the training center is also equipped with a multi-purpose room, a football field, an 400-meter athletics track, a long jump track, a high jump track, and a shot put track.

With this integrated facility, it is expected that para-athletes can undergo training programs according to international competition standards.

The existence of the Paralympic Training Center is not only an impact on coaching and sports achievements, but also has the potential to provide economic effects for the surrounding community.

The activities of athletes, coaches, support personnel, and the organization of national and international sports activities are considered to be able to encourage the growth of the tourism, hospitality, culinary, and micro-business sectors in Karanganyar Regency.

The PU Ministry has also planned the development of the second phase in the area.

The development includes the addition of sports and dormitory buildings to expand the capacity for coaching athletes.
